Red Tide Update

Red Tide Update

This past fall, our Florida coast experienced its worst toxic algae bloom in years, and Naples was not spared. If red tide caused you respiratory issues, you’re not alone. EPN physician, Dr. Howard Linzer, explains in this article the ways that red tide can—and did—affect public health when red tide is present.

The good news is no respiratory irritation or dead fish are currently being reported in the Naples area. You can always visit the Collier County website to view the most recent red tide results from all area beaches.

In the event red tide persists, EPN Urgent Care is available to treat respiratory symptoms associated with exposure to red tide. We can administer or prescribe medications that will help control associated respiratory symptoms. If needed, we will conduct tests such as chest X-rays or administer medication via nebulizer in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs.

While residents in other areas of the U.S. are bundling up to stay warm, Floridians can breathe easy, and get out and enjoy the beautiful “winter” weather.
